Once, while walking through the fellowship hall, there was, what looked like a perfectly good soccer ball lying on the floor. I picked it up, I tried to bounce it, and to my surprise it had lost its bounce. I thought to myself, that’s how I feel sometimes and that’s how I am sometimes. I think there are times we have lost our bounce, and that is how the church is sometimes. But God in His goodness, grace and mercy puts the bounce back in us. He fills us with the Holy Spirit, puts the bounce back in our walk. (Sort of like Tigger) God puts the baton in your hand and says, “Run with it, run the race, win souls, do good works, sing praises.” When we do that, when we seek God and His Goodness, mercy and grace we can say: “God is Good, all the time, All the time, God is good“.
Shalom, Pastor Jeri
Sundays from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Haxtun UMC’s Sunday service is a blend of contemporary and traditional worship that, while we do follow a regular format each Sunday, has a less formal feel. Service includes a greeting and opening prayer, praise and worship music, a children’s message, an offering, the message, and also includes special music and hymns, a closing prayer, and a benediction.
Communion is served the first Sunday of each month and appropriate holy days. All are invited to celebrate communion, but you can choose whether or not you wish to participate.
The Sacrament of Baptism initiates one into the fellowship of Christ’s Church (for United Methodists) and is observed in the context of the worshiping congregation on Sunday mornings, or by special arrangements with the pastor. Anyone desiring baptism for oneself or one’s child, should arrange a prior consultation with the pastor.
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated on the First Sunday of each month. The communion elements are served in the pews or by intinction. In keeping with our United Methodist tradition the communion is open to all who love their neighbors, seek forgiveness for their sin, are at peace and harmony with their neighbor or working towards that end, and desire to commune with God.
Haxtun UMC is blessed to have talented individuals who fill the church with the joy of their songs of praise. They glorify God with their talents of voice and instruments.
Our church appreciates the gifts of instrumentalists and vocalists willing to share their talents for the glory of God in the setting of Sunday morning worship services and other special occasions. The musical groups are always looking for new members, if interested in joining please contact the church office or pastor at 970-774-6418.
